The Mount’s Third Annual Interschool Gymnastics Competition, the Best Yet!
The Mount’s Interschool Gymnastics Competition for Years 3-13 was an inclusive day of fun skills and competition. Girls of all ages and levels competed as their peers cheered them on.
Throughout the day, girls from several schools competed for both individual and team medals across three skill levels: Novice, Intermediate and Elite.
Pupils from Wiggington, Copmanthorpe, Huntington, Bootham, All Saints and Fulford schools joined Mount girls to display their acrobatic skills, performing complex gymnastics routines in front of the judges. There were some exceptional performances from girls in all categories, and everybody gave it their best.
As pupils gathered to hear the results and receive medals, judge and expert Ruth – who has a background in teaching PE and Gymnastics at degree level – said: “Thank you for having us, The Mount. It is wonderful that so many pupils want to take part every time. It’s always an absolute privilege to watch them perform and score their routines. I was honoured to be invited to The Mount to judge this excellent competition again, as it’s so important to raise the profile and standards of gymnastics in schools. Congratulations to all involved!”
Fiona Newman, Head of Sport at The Mount, said: “I’m proud of everyone who took part. It was fantastic to welcome 132 gymnasts from seven schools across York. Pupils gave it their all, with some very high standards indeed. The best thing is that everyone can participate at whatever level they wish. We are so proud to run and host this annual popular competition which celebrates York’s love of gymnastics and recognises and rewards practice and potential.”
Steven Jeff, Deputy Head of The Mount Prep School, said: “Every girl impressed with her skill, determination, and perseverance, delivering confident and polished routines throughout the event.
In the intermediate section, it was truly medals galore for The Mount: Grace soared to bronze, Hetty secured a brilliant silver, and Hattie took gold with the highest score – an outstanding achievement! The success continued in the team event, where The Mount team of Hattie, Hetty, Grace, Arabella, Darcy, and Alexa earned a well-deserved silver medal with a superb collective performance.”
The Junior competition saw pupils from The Mount Prep School (Years 3-6) compete against two other schools in a good-natured yet tricky contest.
For the Senior competition girls from The Mount competed against four other schools where some of the routines were extremely challenging.
