The Mount Piano School 2026 Saw World-Class Pianists Run Masterclasses
Piano School participants, including Mount pupils, honed their craft with help from world-class pianists Murray McLachlan and The Mount’s own Paul Feehan, amongst others.
The piano course took place across three days during the Easter holidays. Those who signed up not only participated in a range of bespoke masterclasses, but were treated to recitals by elite, world-renowned pianists Murray McLachlan, Paul Feehan, Matthew Thomas Palmer and Jakob Fichart, a rare treat to have such access.
Murray McLachlan, an accomplished musician who was the last person in the 20th century to give a concerto performance at the Royal Albert Hall, said:
“This has been a wonderful event. It’s such a beautiful school with excellent facilities – 14 Steinways no less – and it’s really exciting to be able to work with such talented young people.”
Director of Music at The Mount, Andrew Passmore, said:
“It was a delight to welcome both new and returning faces to the 2026 Piano Course! Our 3-day course, tailored to suit each individual, is a wonderful way to make music, make friends, and make progress. Under the direction of our incredible Piano Teacher, and Director of the Course, Paul Feehan, students took part in a wide range of activities such as individual tuition, masterclasses, daily pupil and professional recitals, composition, analysis, duets, theory, aural tests, and there was even time for a talk from a Senior ABRSM Examiner! As a Steinway School, with 14 in the building, The Mount is proud to make the finest instruments made available to our students, and they really do make the most of them! Well done to all who took part. “
Piano Teacher at The Mount and event organiser Paul Feehan said:
“I have been delighted to see so many fantastic improvements in a very short space of time and, equally importantly, everyone has enjoyed themselves. A huge well done to all. It was a pleasure to work with such a talented team to deliver this excellent piano course. Watch this space for future ones!”
Gareth Green, a Senior Examiner from ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) was also in attendance and gave useful insights on examining criteria.
The course was a resounding success – the participants all spoke positively of their experience.
Malaykah, Year 9, said; “The course was really beneficial for people who want to pursue music. The performers were really talented, they were a joy to watch.”
Thank you to the talented pianists who contributed to this year’s piano school; your knowledge and expertise were invaluable for the young pianists in attendance who may well go on to travel the world, performing their own recitals for future generations.
