Calling All Pianists – Join The Mount School York Piano Course

The Mount School York is proudly running another Piano School following the success of previous years, confirming out position as a piano hub of excellence. World-class pianist and teacher at The Mount Paul Feehan is leading the immersive piano course this year alongside Mount Director of Music Andrew Passmore with another internationally renowned invited guest!

The course will cater to each pupil’s needs and pianists at every level are warmly welcomed.

Students will benefit from Paul Feehan’s expertise in one-to-ones and experience his recital close-up (when Paul usually sells out large halls). We are fortunate that Paul teaches piano at The Mount as he is known across the globe as a multi-talented pianist, composer and teacher, and has been awarded a plethora of prestigious music prizes over the years including The RJ Forbes, which he won twice.

International Concert pianist Murray McLachlan – Head of Keyboard at Chetham’s School of Music who has performed across the world including for the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall – will run a masterclass and perform a solo recital for students. It is a rare treat to have such access. With over forty concertos in his repertoire, and having recorded countless albums and conducted, Murray’s expertise will prove invaluable on the course.

Pianists at all levels will have access to our suite of 14 Steinway pianos as we are one of only a handful of all-Steinway schools in the North of England.

Costs have been kept as low as possible to make the course inclusive and include individual lessons that would alone be costly outside of this setting. Students can opt for one, two or three days of 1:1 tuition, sight-reading and aural classes, professional recitals and performance opportunities (one-day is £135, two-days are £250 and three-days are £345 including lunch). The day runs from 10.30am – 4.30pm.

After the last course, Paul Feehan, said:

“I have been delighted to see so many fantastic improvements in a short space of time and, equally importantly, everyone has enjoyed themselves. A huge well done to all. It was a pleasure to work with such a talented team to deliver this excellent piano course with the masterclass and recital, a real treat to end on.”

Andrew Passmore, The Mount’s Director of Music, said:

“We cannot wait to welcome you all to The Mount Piano School. A three-day celebration of all things piano, our 14 Steinways can’t wait to be played and enjoyed. There is something for everyone, and the ability to tailor your course to suit your own learning is unique.

The breadth and standard achieved last time was wonderful. I was proud of every student who took part and invited them all back. I’m confident that some of the students on the last course will be world-famous pianists of the future, though enjoyment and participation is our first priority as a proudly Quaker school.

As a Music department, we’re enjoying cultivating The Mount’s growing reputation as a piano centre of excellence and will continue to invite in renowned performers and teachers for The Mount music community to enjoy.”

16-year-old student Albert said:

“I mainly practised my two pieces prior to upcoming Grade 7 and was given extremely helpful techniques, and new ways of considering the pieces, which will only help me improve and grow in performance confidence. I recommend this course to anyone who loves piano and wishes to add finesse to their skills. It’s inclusive, as there were all sorts of levels and there was something for everyone to work on.”
