Mount Pupils Star in Dance Showcase with Year 11’s El Helping Organise it for Work Experience

Year 11s have been working hard at their diverse array of two-week work placements. We will share some of their experiences when they write them up this Autumn…but here’s one to start the ball rolling.

For her work experience placement, El in Year 11 secured work at Yorkshire Rose Academy of Dance (YRAD) which originally started out at The Mount in 2014. For the dance school’s tenth anniversary, they put on a spectacular Dance Showcase last weekend at the Grand Opera House, which raised money for Martin House Children’s Hospice.

El’s work included preparation for the show including producing information packs for chaperones, preparing merchandise, organising teacher and chaperone gifts, as well as assisting with mid-week pre-primary ballet classes for children aged 3-5. Post-show, she has been counting and packing hired costumes for return, and preparing for the YRAD Awards Party.

As well as performing in the showcase as part of the senior ballet, contemporary, street dance, modern, commercial and musical theatre groups, El also danced with the younger children aged 2-5 where she has volunteered as a class assistant for the past few years.

Other Mount girls who performed in the Showcase, alongside El, were her sister Hannah (Year 8), Agnes (Year 7) and Jessica (Year 6). The Showcase featured a wide range of dance styles including ballet, contemporary, tap, acro, street, modern, commercial and musical theatre.

As well as Mount pupils, Ruth who runs Code Club in school and is El and Hannah’s mum, also performed along with ten other brave parents to rapturous applause.

Well done – we are very proud of all of you, performing to such large audiences over three shows in a professional theatre!
