Sign Up to Our 240-Year Music Marathon at The Mount!

In celebration of 240 years of our beloved Mount School York, pupils, staff and our wider school community will be making music, non-stop, for 24 hours! We will begin at 4pm on Monday 30 June, and finish at 4pm on Tuesday 1 July, having played or sung for 1440 minutes!

At The Mount, we love music and we encourage our pupils and staff to be the change they wish to see in the world, making a positive contribution to our changing world, one of our school Quaker values. What better way to do this than to put our collective musical talents to use in raising money for local music charity Jessie’s Fund?

Our aim is to raise £1 for every minute of music performed, for Jessie’s Fund – a local charity that is close to our hearts, so please do give generously.

There have already been many eager sign-ups to the upcoming Music Marathon, which we are very incredibly grateful for, but there are still slots to be filled by any budding musicians in our community, teachers and pupils alike.

If you would like to perform, please sign up here today.

Some exciting features of the Music Marathon include an hour-long rehearsal by the renowned York Symphony Orchestra who will be performing from 7.30 – 8.30pm on Monday 30 June. There will also be a whole Senior School grand finale of ‘Sing’ by Gary Barlow OBE, accompanied by our orchestra. Our talented Head, Anna Wilby, will also perform on the Marimba, piano and will sing on Tuesday morning!

Director of Music, Dr Andrew Passmore, said:

“Please sign up today. We are so proud to support Jessie’s Fund. We had the idea of raising money in a way that reflects Jessie’s Funds’ aims and ethos, making music in a fun and inclusive way. It’s also lovely to gather all the talented musicians in our school community for an end-of-term musical extravaganza. We cannot wait! Watch this space for a live feed!”

Jessie’s Fund is a York-based charity which allows children with additional needs or illness to communicate through the beautiful, universal language of music. The funds raised in our Music Marathon will go towards instruments and musical therapists to give children with disabilities a different way of expressing themselves, making friends and learning.

If you would like to donate to our mammoth 24 hours of music (celebrating 240 years of musical excellence at The Mount) and raising money for Jessie’s Fund, please do so here: @mountyorkmusic is fundraising for Jessie’s Fund | Give as you Live Donate
