Mount’s New State-of-the-Art Dance Studio Formally Opens
Head, Anna Wilby, officially declared our new Dance Studio open as she cut the ceremonial ribbon in front of a large, excited crowd.
The school community gathered outside the impressive new building during our school’s annual Family Day. Head of The Mount, Anna Wilby was joined by Director of Sport, Fiona Newman, before addressing the audience:
“It is my absolute pleasure to formally open this fantastic facility, which will be something that inspires countless generations of Mounties.”
This campus development further positions The Mount as a centre of performing arts excellence ahead of our dance team’s attendance at The Great Big Dance Off Nationals.
This studio supports our aims to be the school of choice for performing arts opportunities and facilities, enhancing our already enviable dance provision. It also forms part of our expanding campus with a new DT suite nearly ready and our Pre-School which will open in September.
Lessons have been running in the studio since Spring, but this was the first time families were able to get a glimpse of the vibrant new hub in use. All Mount pupils enjoy these top-class dance facilities daily and Patricia Veale Dance School also runs its diverse timetable from the studio.
After the ribbon was cut, spectators were treated to two performances by Mount pupils. First was our Senior School Dance Team, who performed the touching routine ‘Righteous Peace’, that recently earned them a victory at the Great Big Dance Off Regionals. This was followed by a charming Musical Theatre piece, as Prep School pupils performed ‘Fat Sam’s Grand Slam’ – a routine from their recent Bugsy Malone production which received a standing ovation.
Our dance club was delighted to be crowned regional winners at The Great Big Dance Off in February, and we now look forward to the national finals at the end of June. They first premiered their award-winning dance routine, ‘Righteous Peace,’ at The Mount Dance Showcase to rapturous applause; it is an emotional, lyrical piece that reflects on war and emphasises the Quaker desire to have peace.
The whole Mount community is delighted to celebrate our new facilities and look forward to seeing our creative pupils rehearse, choreograph, and excel in this wonderful space.
