Bravo! Superb GCSE Results Achieved Again at The Mount School York

Congratulations to our extremely hardworking GCSE pupils who have achieved an excellent set of results today across a wide variety of subjects.

We are so proud of this cohort where 13% achieved grade 9s, many achieved two or more, with some achieving an impressive cluster of 9s.

28% of grades awarded were 8-9 and over 42% of grades were 7-9, all outstanding achievements.

Many girls outperformed their predicted grades after working so hard, showing the value added at The Mount which continues its upward trajectory and builds even further on the successes of last year.

Pupils celebrating today include:

Katie’s excellent revision strategy paid off with a superb 6 x 9s and 3 x 8s in subjects including Music, Latin, Double Science, French, Geography and (English, a year early)! A talented singer and violinist, performing regularly in school and in national competitions, Katie was also a member of Food Council and won the esteemed York Civic Trust Public Speaking Competition alongside Amelia.

Asta achieved an outstanding 6 x 9s and 3 x 8s in Biology, Chemistry, Art, History, Physics and English Language, showing her mastery across a diverse range of subjects. She still made time to represent peers on the student council, attend Model United Nations club and trips, and take part in the Independent State School Partnership (ISSP) Business Competition.

Anabel balanced her time as a champion equestrian and passionate scientist, achieving an impressive 5 x 9s in subjects including Sciences, Art and English Language. Her STEM expertise will come in useful as she continues with her ambition to become a vet when she soon continues her A Levels here at The Mount.

Amelia’s writing and debating skills (winning the coveted York Civic Trust Public Speaking Competition alongside Katie) may have contributed to her tremendous 4 x grade 9s, the rest being brilliant grade 8s. Amelia kept her study week balanced by excelling at sport in school, too, including netball and rounders where she was a key part of both successful teams. We are confident she will continue to thrive in all these areas when she returns to complete her A Levels at The Mount in the autumn.

Ursie’s love of languages was evident when she achieved an amazing 2 x 9s and 5 x 8s, including German and English Language, which she took a year early. Form Rep, Ursie is a kind girl who is an example of all we value at The Mount and we know she will continue to be a great role model in our Sixth Form in September.

Romey’s 2 x 9s in English Language and Geography, and 8s in Biology, Chemistry, French, History, Maths and Physics are all to be applauded. Like Asta, Romey still made time to represent peers on the student council, attend Model United Nations club and trips, and take part in the Independent State School Partnership (ISSP) Business Competition.

Ella achieved a wonderful 6 x 9s in subjects including the three sciences, Maths and Further Maths plus History! A modest pupil, we are especially proud of Ella’s amazing achievements.

Performances were strong across all subjects with the following areas worthy of note:

  • Latin saw two thirds of pupils achieve the top grade 9, with 100% grade 6 or above.
  • Geography is strong again, where 45% secured grades 8 or 9, two thirds achieved grades 7-9 and 100% achieved grades 6-9.
  • 93% of students secured top grades 7-9 in Art, where The Mount performs very well year on year.
  • Science continues to be a strength at The Mount with 27% of Chemistry students and 25% of Biology and Physics students securing top grade 9s, increases on last year.

The Mount also gives pupils the chance to shine early. Year 10s were entered for their English Language GCSE a year early with great results. For example, Lily was delighted with her early 9! Girls excelled at Music a year early too. For example, Emilia also enjoyed receiving an early grade 9 today.

Head, Anna Wilby, said:

“Congratulations to all our girls for these excellent GCSE results, of which we’re so very proud. Pupils have applied themselves to reap the rewards of higher grades than predicted, which is where The Mount consistently and proudly adds value.

The girls achieved to the very best of their abilities which is all we ever ask. I wish them the very best for their next steps and look forward to seeing many of them in our Sixth Form where they will be the first cohort to undertake our new, innovative Ignite programme where life skills are rewarded alongside academics. With gold, silver or bronze certificates awarded, pupils will stand out when it comes to applying for their next steps.

We look forward to welcoming a vibrant mix of pupils to our Sixth Form this September with a diverse array of talents and interests. Medicine is proving a popular ambition this year with many talented girls starting with us, pursuing A Levels in STEM subjects: sciences and Maths.

Today’s success follows our strong A Level results last week. All our girls should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved, both in terms of exam results and their wider contributions within school.

This is just the start of such an exciting time in their lives as they navigate future paths. A huge well done to all.”
