Through outdoor learning, extra-curricular activities and competing on the sports fields our pupils engage in School life beyond the classroom.

At The Mount Junior School we celebrate everyone’s participation in sport.

Our aim is to encourage a genuine enthusiasm for physical activity in all our pupils. Our excellent facilities and specialist teaching allow us to offer a wide range of activities, including swimming, gymnastics, dance, athletics, fencing and team sports such as netball, hockey, tennis, rounders and athletics.

We want our pupils to try a range of sports allowing them to discover what they enjoy.  We provide opportunities for all our pupils to participate in sports both non-competitively and competitively.  We play matches against a variety of schools.

Within the curriculum, we deliver a variety of activities to develop their skills and provide new challenges. All children from Reception receive weekly specialist teaching in swimming, dance, gym, athletics and games. This broad range of activities enables children to experience working both independently and as part of a team.

“Junior pupils displayed high-quality swimming skills during a lesson supported by an excellent staffing ration and coaching that set individual targets.”

Some children prefer to learn outside and at The Mount Junior School we positively encourage them to do just that!

The extensive school grounds and facilities provide opportunities for outdoor learning and plenty of fun. Class Teachers utilise the School grounds and local area to support every area of the curriculum. For example, you may find Year 6 pond dipping in our wildlife area, Year 5 measuring on the playground, Year 2 using the Enchanted Garden as a stimulus for Creative Writing or Reception making potions to support their work on senses.

Outdoor Education is included as part of our PE Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2.  We have an on-site woodland area where we run Forest School activities including shelter building, fire lighting, creative activities and nature study. Through these sessions pupils expand their minds, they build confidence, raise self-esteem and develop confidence, independence and communication skills.

They become aware of the world around them, learn to be a team player, take risks, learn new skills and most importantly enjoy themselves.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Every child, no matter where their talent or interests lie, will find activities to enjoy at The Mount.  New skills, extended learning and most importantly having fun are all provided through our extensive range of extra-curricular activities.  At this young age pupils are still learning what their passions and talent, are so pupils from all year groups are actively encouraged to give everything a go!

Activities take place during lunchtime and after the school day.  Pupils can choose which clubs they would like to join and we always try to accommodate their choices.  Clubs change according to the season with each term providing a varied programme. Current extra-curricular clubs include:
