Joyous Christmas Meeting Concludes the Autumn Term

On Saturday 3rd December, guests gathered in the Dining Hall for refreshments ahead of the Christmas Meeting.

Each year, to honour the end of the Autumn term, the School community meets in a farewell gathering at the English Martyrs Church. It is a time to reflect, present readings, sing hymns and congregational carols. The seamless transition from traditional readings and choral masterpieces to singalong Christmas Carols encapsulated the spirit of Christmas beautifully and ensured the audience of parents, friends, pupils, and staff were involved throughout.

Proceedings began with a spectacular solo from Katie, in Year 9. She performed the opening verse of Once in Royal David’s City from the rear balcony, before being accompanied by the Senior and Chamber Choir.

We were joined by the York Junior Youth Choir for a rendition of One Candle – Beck, In Dulci Jubilo arr. Synder, directed by Alison Forster.

As pupil’s took it turns to approach the lectern to deliver readings, interspersed with musical interludes, the audience proudly watched on and awaited their invitation to join in with the musical merriment.

A rendition of Hark the Herald Angels Sing concluded the meeting, as parents, guests and families were invited back to the School Dining Hall to celebrate over hot chocolate, festive mince pies and other Christmas inspired baked goods.

We would like to thank the Music Department, and everyone involved for arranging another joyous Christmas Meeting. We wish everyone who joined us, a very Merry Christmas.
