Natalie gives career advice to Year 10 girls

The Mount Year 10 girls had a great start to their day with a visit from Natalie Greenwood, a trainee IRM analyst at professional services firm KPMG, one of the “Big Four” auditors, along with Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Natalie gave an inspirational talk about her career path to date, as an astrophysics graduate from the University of York working in IT within the financial services sector.

Organisations depend on IT for complete and accurate financial reporting, and external auditors rely on IT systems and controls for an efficient and effective audit. The Information Risk Management (IRM) team at KPMG assists audit teams by making sure that the systems and applications used for financial reporting are securely controlled in order to reduce errors and fraud.

Natalie answered lots of questions from the eager Year 10s about her route into employment and how they could make their initial CVs stand out from the crowd in the future. The students also heard about undergraduate life and how to make a strong UCAS application to Russell group universities.

The girls were very inspired to hear from a recent graduate and the process of applying for jobs, and were encouraged by Natalie’s final words about finding the right career:

“Trust your instincts,” she said. “It’s important to do something that you love, and when you enjoy something it’s much easier to talk about it with confidence during an interview.”

Here at the Mount we enhance our Careers programme by enabling our students to have regular encounters with the world of work and also to hear from inspirational women.
