Inspiring Fran Duffy rises at 5am for elite netball training before a full day as a corporate lawyer and a 9pm bedtime – with occasional walks in the Peak District – before doing it all again.
Did we mention she also Captains the Republic of Ireland’s National Netball Team and is a key member of a netball club in her native Sheffield?
Only twelve years ago she was a school pupil just like our girls, enjoying an education at Mount St Mary’s School where a certain sports teacher, a Mr David Griffiths, saw her potential and encouraged her to aim high.
As part of our Careers programme, we welcomed Fran who is an Associate in the Corporate Commercial department at Myerson Solicitors. Fran is also an international netball player with over 46 international caps and having competed at international level across the world including five trips to Singapore with another due in September.
Her fascinating talk was hugely enjoyed by pupils of all ages.
Fran said, “I want to serve as a role model to young women. I want to remind them that if I can do it so can they. I’m just an ordinary person who has worked hard to achieve my goals, and I’m still striving.
I’m happy to talk about how committing to sport has helped me apply myself in other areas like Law. I’m eager to give back by talking about my journey and hope these Mount girls will have started to achieve their own dreams in ten years’ time.”
She then kindly provided in-school coaching sessions to our excited Year 11s who now have insider tips and skills to apply at their next match!
Mr Waddington said, “Fran is one of Mr Griffiths’ former pupils, and it was wonderful to hear about her journey from school to now, and how she is able to balance her busy schedule of Law and competitive international sport. We thank her for her time and expertise.”
