The Mount Proudly Wins Yet Another Netball Tournament!

The Mount is one to watch in the netball circuit having just won the York/Selby Schools U16 ESNT Trophy.

This follows success over the last year at many netball tournaments including the U19s Silcoates’ Invitational Tournament, U15s York Schools’ League and PGL Shropshire where The Mount won three of five different age-group tournaments and placed top three in the others.

Our partnership with Leeds Rhinos Netball Team sees Mount girls coached weekly – alongside in-school netball sessions – and the results speak for themselves.

In this York/Selby Schools U16 competition, The Mount was up against six other state and independent schools. Winning all matches and drawing one against Bootham – a nail-biting and exciting match with our fellow Quaker school – The Mount ended up in number one position, followed by Bootham and St Peter’s.

Isla, Year 11, said:

“The best bit was the team chats after each match, encouraging each other on. There was such a sense of pride and relief when we ended up winners.”

Charlotte, Year 11, said:

“It was a great tournament. Exciting, friendly and tense. We worked hard in each match for a great result.”

Director of Sport, Fiona Newman, said:

“The girls gave it their all and were delighted to win the whole tournament. Participation is our priority at The Mount and to win is the cherry on top. The PE department is very proud of the girls who played and hope this success continues across a range of year groups.”

Co-Principal, Jo Goudriaan, said:

“Congratulations to our Year 11 team. Today’s school Quaker text seems fitting: ‘True champions aren’t always the ones that win, but those with the most guts.’ (Mia Hamm). Here, The Mount U16 team showed both bravery and excellence at the tournament. The whole school community applauds them.”

The large plaque newly engraved with The Mount 2024 now stands proudly in our school Reception.
