Young Show Jumper Anabel Wows in Competitions

Talented Year 10, Anabel, has been finessing her considerable show jumping talents over the past year, with bespoke training from a new local coach, and is reaping the rewards.

The youngest entrant at only 15 years old, Anabel, recently came an amazing sixth out of 54 competitors in the Western Lawns Young Horse Championships, which took place over four days.

She looks forward to entering Vale View, Hickstead and Chepstow Internationals in coming months.

Anabel said, “My life goals are to be selected as a novice for the British Team, join the competitive European team and compete at the Olympics one day. I also want to study to become an equine vet so I’ve chosen subjects at school to put me on that path, which I’m really enjoying.”

Anabel and her trusty horse, James, (his pedigree name is JamesBondUK) are developing a wonderful partnership when they train four times a week in the yard based in the Castle Howard area. An additional training session takes place once a week at Harrogate International Area where Anabel has sole use to practice jumps and routines with James.

Last summer Anabel bonded with her horse James when he was resting with an injured hock.

Most entrants of Anabel’s age would start training with a pony but Anabel’s prowess on the saddle and height, meant that she started competing on a horse from the start.

Director of Sport, Jackie Greenwood, said:

“Huge congratulations to talented Anabel. We are always happy to accommodate her schedule and support her wherever we can and we love hearing of her successes!”

Principal, Mr David Griffiths, said:

“Anabel is taking the show jumping circuit by storm and we wish her every success. We are so proud of all her in and out-of-school achievements.

We can put her in touch with our extensive network of contacts across sports, and equestrianism in particular, plus medicine and veterinary science, so she can benefit from useful guidance and mentorship to further realise her dreams.”

Anabel’s smart competition outfit is also on brand for The Mount School York with her stylish white jodhpurs and coat, & navy-blue hat and saddle!
