Early Years Explore Swan Lake Costume

Ms Day kindly brought the Pre School children a special treat this week for them to explore, a real-life Swan Lake costume.

The girls excitedly took it in turns to wear the beautiful garment and listened intently as they learnt all about the materials and textures. Each of them practiced on their tip toes and some even had a go at a pirouette.

They learnt that every tutu has eight layers of tulle, and the corset has ‘bones’ stitched inside it to keep the ballerina upright. The silk is appliquéd with sparkly sequins and beads making it very heavy to wear.

Madame Wellar was very impressed with the French words they all remembered – plié, pirouette, tulle, and appliqué.
