Eliza rocks out during half term break

Year 5 pupil, Eliza turned rockstar over the half term break as she attended a week-long Rock School course in Leeds.

The unique musical opportunity held during the school holidays welcomes young people between the ages of 9 and 16 to experience life as a musician and offers a range of musical activities for them to explore.

Eliza had a great week playing drums and guitar, as well as showcasing her vocals in front of a crowd. To celebrate the end of the week, the young musicians perform at their very own gig held at respected music venue, The Wardrobe, in the City Centre.

Accompanied by her band, Eliza opened the show with a rendition of rock classic, Sweet Child of Mine. The group bravely pushed aside any hints of stage fright, as Eliza sang her heart out to the audience of 80+ spectators. Followed by a further 4 performances, she was then able to join the audience as she looked on in awe at the senior school singers.

The resounding success of the week has inspired Eliza to take part again in future weeks. She particularly enjoyed watching the older performers and found the talent of some of the older 16- and 17-year-olds quite inspirational.

“I had a great week; it was a little bit scary at first but after that it was really fun, and my favourite part was the rehearsing. I think I would like to go again.  – Eliza

“It is wonderful to watch Eliza develop as a multi-instrumentalist; we are so pleased that she chose to spend her half-term making music!” – Dr. Passmore, Director of Music at The Mount School
