Literature Workshop Invites Teachers, Authors and Illustrators

The Mount School York is hosting a unique literature workshop with the region’s leading organisation for children’s authors in celebration of the 2023 York Literature Festival. The hybrid workshop aims to enhance children’s love of learning through literature by bringing together educators with authors and illustrators for a session of free-thinking discussions and plenary.

Dawn Treacher, North East Convener for the Society of Children’s Books’ Writers and Illustrators, said, “We are very excited for our members to participate in this workshop. It’s not often that authors and illustrators have the opportunity to engage with teachers from so many different schools in a single forum. I look forward to hearing their innovative ideas for inspiring young minds to enjoy literature in this digital age.

David Griffiths, Principal of The Mount School York, said, “I look forward to welcoming authors and illustrators of children’s books and teachers from schools in York and the surrounding areas to this workshop in celebration of the 2023 York Literature Festival. Our Junior pupils love it when authors visit to read their book and talk about story writing. Such visits bring books to life and fire up the children’s imaginations. It will be interesting to hear fresh insights from the sessions.

The workshop an ideal opportunity for teachers to network with each other to share best practice and emerging trends. It is also a unique opportunity for teachers to network with published, working authors, illustrators and editors who are keen to hear valuable insights from EYFS, KS1 and KS2 teachers with their professional experiences of making literature come to life in the classroom and beyond.

With limited spaces available for the in-person workshop, the organisers have opted for a hybrid event allowing those who cannot attend in person to do so online. Authors, editors, illustrators and teachers wishing to register for this free-to-attend event are invited to complete this Form.
