International Women’s Day with Fun Family Science Journeys

Friday marks International Women’s Day and the start of British Science Week. We are celebrating in the Senior School looking at the careers of inspiring women.

The 2019 BSW theme is Journeys, and families are invited to get involved with a useful resources pack from the British Science Association and Eurotunnel.

A free virtual race app called “Run With Ancestors” has been created for families to enjoy together, in 5k and 10k distances. (A virtual race is like a traditional race, but it takes place in the location and time of your choice during British Science Week. You can walk, run or job wherever you may be and at any time for a 5K or 10K distance.) The app traces a million years of human history in Britain, with the thrilling story of how our ancestors arrived, lived and thrived here. Transform your run into an educational journey!

There is a Poster Competition which our Science department is supporting. Closing date for entries is 5 April 2019.

The 2019 International Women’s Day campaign theme is #BalanceForBetter, asking how we can achieve a more gender-balanced world. International Women’s Day invites everyone to strike the #BalanceForBetter pose and raise awareness to make a positive difference for women and girls everywhere.

Budding photographers are invited to enter the EyeEm inaugural photography competition, closing date for entries is 31 March.
