The Mount has a long history of helping girls to achieve their best academically.  This is achieved in many ways, most of which stem from the values that underpin the School community, to respect and value every individual.

Respect and Value Every Individual

It is the nature of a small school community to view pupils as individuals and not as ‘bands of ability’. Small class sizes enable us to focus on the individual needs of each girl. Pastoral and academic staff at The Mount work very closely together to ensure each girl unlocks her potential and enjoys every chance to flourish.

“Pupils lead conversations, respond well to the frequent use of open questions in teaching and are encouraged to celebrate mistakes as part of their learning journey.” ISI Inspection 2018

Academic Enrichment

Our extensive academic enrichment programme is designed to broaden the girls’ educational experience and inspire them in the pursuit of their intellectual passions.

Senior School girls have a weekly enrichment session during which they undergo flexible and varied programmes designed to both support their learning and encourage them to explore new horizons.

Learning Support

The Mount School offers support for pupils with specific learning difficulties through a dedicated Special Education Needs (SEND) department.  The department encourages every pupil to grow and flourish in confidence by recognising their strengths and needs.  Staff assist pupils by developing learning strategies, providing extra one-to-one support or through academic counselling, as required. Staff are calm, supportive and caring, allowing pupils to develop their self-esteem and ensuring each pupil reaches their full academic potential.

Digital Learning

At The Mount School we believe that the use of Information Technology should be integral to the teaching and learning process.  We want our pupils to be fully skilled for the fast-changing world.

Modern day technologies are continually changing and adapting and as such so is the way we teach. All of our teachers are equipped with ipad devices and classrooms are fitted with an Apple TV.  Teachers are skilled in delivering lessons with this technology and utilise developments and new technology in the teaching of their lessons.

“Pupils use information and communication technology (ICT) to enhance and reinforce their learning very effectively.” ISI Inspection 2018

Trips & Visits

Exploring concepts in the classroom is one thing; learning experiences outside the classroom inspire young minds to think independently. Senior School girls enjoy trips, excursions and external competitions that stretch their world view and educational journey.  Examples of recent trips include to the Cranedale Centre (Geography, Biology), Hardwick Hall and Beth Shalom (History), Howarth Museum (English), Yorkshire Sculpture Park (Art, DT) and London and Liverpool (History, Art, English, DT).  Recent international trips include to Belfast (Netball), Brittany (MFL), Berlin (MFL, History, Art) and Boppard (MFL), Geneva for CERN and the UN (Physics), Monaco (PeaceJam), Greece (Sports teams and PE), Iceland (Geography), Italy (Ski trip) and Namibia (Years 11-College II).
