Inspiring Bright Girls: Sally Nicholls

Best-selling author Sally Nicholls gave a workshop today to girls in the Senior School and visiting pupils from Queen Mary’s School.

Sally has been shortlisted for the 2019 Carnegie Medal which is awarded by the CILIP, the association for the UK’s librarians and information professionals. Her novel, Things A Bright Girl Can Do, features in the 2019 York Literature Festival. The story is set in England between 1914 and 1918, centring on three young women whose lives are affected by the Great War and the suffragette movement.

After being named on the shortlist, Sally tweeted, “This is quite literally ten years of wishbones come true.”

Nick David, Chair of the York Literature Festival, said, “The organisers heartily congratulate Sally on this marvelous achievement and look forward to welcoming her to the Festival.”
